Synthetic vs. Plant-Based Supplements: The Difference That Makes All the Difference
You want to feel good, think clearly, and stay strong –
in your daily life, throughout your life, for yourself. Then it's good to know what you're giving your body – and where it really comes from. "Natural" is almost everywhere today.
But is it really in there?
There are worlds between synthetic and herbal food supplements,
even if they often look very similar on the label.
We show you what really matters and why your body recognizes real plant power.
Nutrients at their Best – Your Body Will Feel It Too
Plants have always accompanied our diet - our body knows them and can absorb them better. Synthetic products, on the other hand, are comparatively new. Plant-based food supplements also contain natural co-factors such as enzymes, bitter substances or secondary plant compounds - instead of isolated substances, which often cause more harm than good.
Nature works according to its own principles, thinking in contexts, not in individual substances. It delivers nutrients in their best form - embedded in an effective overall package - including natural accompanying substances. These accompanying substances help the body to better utilize natural vitamins and minerals. Nutrients in their natural compound are generally also much gentler on our body. By the way, plant-based iron from curry leaves is much better tolerated than synthetic forms of iron. Goodbye stomach ache!

Plant-based vs. Synthetic: Efficacy is Not a Question of Quantity
Synthetic products often focus on quantity – lots of active ingredients, lots of promises. But: more isn't automatically effective. Optimal nutrition isn't just about vitamins and minerals, but also about how the body utilizes them.
Since plant-based supplements work in natural harmony with your body, the body recognizes them as plant substances and processes them more easily. This makes them particularly valuable overall, even during sensitive life stages such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, or menopause. Our products are deliberately minimalistic: focused on what works. Without excessive overdosing, without unnecessary additives. Everything you need. Nothing more.
Recognizing True Plant Power – Here's How
Although it is legally regulated which vitamins and minerals may be used in food supplements, it is not regulated whether they must be of plant origin or artificially produced. Many vitamins are produced synthetically, for example through chemical reactions, the processing of petroleum derivatives, or biotechnological processes involving microorganisms, yeasts, or fungi. Sometimes genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are also used. Manufacturers do not have to declare processes such as genetic engineering and solvents. So, be sure to look for the organic logo or at least a GMO-free seal.
The situation is different for organic products: they may not contain synthetic vitamins or carriers derived from genetic engineering. Therefore, the rule is: anyone who chooses organic plant-based food supplements consciously opts against hidden chemicals and for true nature. Unfortunately, many products have plant-sounding names but still contain synthetically produced active ingredients. There is only one solution: look closely – or go straight for GSE.
Even products declared as "natural" often contain synthetic ingredients.
The declaration "natural" is not protected in principle; it is currently only defined for flavorings. Therefore, pay attention to "100% plant-based" or origin declarations like "from rosehip". Naturally, you will find these statements at GSE.
How do I specifically identify synthetic vitamins?
On the label, synthetic vitamins hide behind terms such as hydrochloride, acetate, or the abbreviation "dl". Certain typical terms on labels indicate that these are synthetic variants.
A few examples:
Vitamin A: Acetate, Palmitate
Vitamin B1: Thiamine Mononitrate
Vitamin B12: Cobalamin
Vitamin E: dl-Alpha-Tocopherol
Iron: Iron Gluconate
Zinc: Zinc Citrate
